Juneteenth: A Time to Reflect and Honor

Why Our Office—and So Many Others—Will Be Closed on June 19th

At Capital City Coordination, we believe that recognizing and honoring important cultural milestones isn’t just about closing our doors—it’s about opening our hearts and minds to what truly matters.

On June 19th, our office will be closed in observance of Juneteenth National Independence Day. This federal holiday is more than just a day off—it’s a powerful reflection of freedom, resilience, and progress. Many of our industry partners, including title companies and banks, will also be closed, and this can have important implications for contract timelines, closings, and funding. As transaction coordinators, our role includes keeping deals on track—so this blog is here to give you the context behind the closure and help you plan ahead like a pro.

What Is Juneteenth, and Why Does It Matter?

Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. Though the Emancipation Proclamation was issued in 1863, freedom didn’t reach all corners of the country immediately. It wasn’t until June 19, 1865, that Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced that all enslaved people were free—more than two years after the proclamation.

That day became known as Juneteenth—a blend of “June” and “nineteenth”—and has been celebrated by African American communities for generations. In 2021, it became an official federal holiday in the United States.

For our team, honoring this day aligns with our core values of integrity, inclusivity, and respect. It’s a moment for reflection, education, and commitment to bettering our communities—both in and outside the real estate world.

What to Expect on June 19th

So, what does Juneteenth mean in practical terms for real estate agents, clients, and transaction coordinators?

Here’s a quick rundown of what you can expect on Thursday, June 19, 2025:

✳️ Closed:

  • Capital City Coordination Office
  • Title companies
  • Banks and financial institutions
  • Some real estate brokerages
  • Lenders and appraisers

✅ Open:

  • Some inspectors and vendors (check availability in advance)
  • Showing services and MLS platforms (though limited support may be available)
  • Your email inbox—but we suggest giving it a break too 😉

If you have an active transaction during this time, it’s important to build in a buffer day and clearly communicate with all parties in advance. That’s where we come in.

Coordinator Pro Tips: Planning Around Juneteenth

Here are the top five ways to set your transaction up for success when navigating a midweek holiday like Juneteenth.

1. Know Your Critical Dates

Juneteenth impacts funding and document delivery timelines—especially for contracts near the option period expiration or closing date. If your file is scheduled to fund or close on June 19, that’s likely not going to happen. Most title companies and banks will be closed, and wires will not process.

Pro Tip: Plan for funding to occur on Friday, June 20 instead. If closing is scheduled for the 19th, be proactive in moving it up to the 18th or back to the 20th.

2. Schedule Closings Smartly

Don’t risk a last-minute scramble. When drafting contracts in the weeks leading up to June 19, avoid scheduling closings on that date entirely. It’s best to aim for Wednesday, June 18 or Friday, June 20 to keep your transaction flowing.

Bonus Tip: Double-check option period deadlines too. Since notices to terminate must be delivered by 5 PM on the last day of the option, make sure this doesn’t fall on a day when coordination offices or brokerages are closed.

3. Communicate With Clients Ahead of Time

One of the most valuable things we can do as a team is help you look polished and proactive to your clients. If you have buyers or sellers in a transaction around this time, let them know upfront that June 19 is a federal holiday. This sets expectations and avoids confusion when responses or funding are delayed.

4. Get Your Docs in Early

Whether you’re awaiting a CDA, title docs, or lender conditions, submitting and requesting documentation at least 48 hours in advance is the safest bet. A good rule of thumb? Treat June 18 as the real deadline for anything you’d typically expect to complete midweek.

5. Loop in Your Coordinator

If you’re working with Capital City Coordination, we’ve already built in reminders around this date—but if you’ve got a closing or critical milestone coming up, just shoot us a note. We’ll confirm that your timeline avoids any holiday hiccups and take care of the details.

Why This Closure Matters

Some might wonder, “Why close for Juneteenth?” Especially in the fast-paced world of real estate, every hour can feel urgent. But as a company made up of professionals who care deeply about the communities we serve, we know that some things are bigger than business.

Closing on Juneteenth is our way of honoring:

  • The struggles and triumphs of Black Americans
  • The ongoing work of equity and inclusion
  • The importance of education and allyship

It’s also a day for rest and reflection—because taking care of our people means they come back ready to take care of yours.

How Agents Can Use the Day Meaningfully

Juneteenth isn’t just a day off—it’s an opportunity to grow, celebrate, and connect.

If you’re an agent looking for ways to honor the spirit of Juneteenth, here are a few ideas:

  • Attend a local Juneteenth event or celebration in your community.
  • Support Black-owned businesses—from restaurants to vendors.
  • Educate yourself and your team with books, podcasts, or documentaries about Black history and real estate.
  • Volunteer or donate to nonprofits promoting racial justice or community development.

A Final Word from Our Team

At Capital City Coordination, we’re proud to support agents across Texas who are committed to excellence, service, and inclusion. While our office will be closed on June 19, our commitment to your success is stronger than ever.

We hope you take a moment to reflect, rest, and remember the deeper meaning behind Juneteenth.
